A second link with Uganda

Exciting times ahead as we build a second link with Uganda!

Following a visit from Bishop George and Florence from the Soroti Diocese of Uganda, the Global mission team presented details of a proposed link with them at the May PCC meeting. The outline of the proposal is that we as a church support a Community project which will provide clean, safe drinking water for a village; we also want to ‘adopt’ a project at the suggestion of Bishop George – this may be helping to provide equipment for a hospital or school. As yet the nature of this project is unknown but it will be something we can spread out to the community here in Hucclecote so we can see the project develop. We can also watch progress as it develops by personal visits which help to make the link with Uganda very real to us a church family.

Mothers’ Union in Soroti

Mothers’ Union is already at work in Soroti Diocese, in conjunction with other agencies under the name of UMOJA (Swahili for Togetherness). The working partners are Tearfund, Mothers’ Union and USPG – agencies which share the same Christian principles and values. All the workers co-operate in the local projects to improve family lives within the community and help to fund and launch local initiatives which are self-sustaining when the workers move on to the next area. What transpires is that God is put at the heart of all things and bridges the gap between the church and the community.
